Something Different!
painted and embroidered scenes stretched on canvas
![]()
A germ of this idea has been floating around in the back of my mind for a while because some patrons like a more traditional piece of art. I've been told that they liked the look of the fabric with the embroidery, but were hesitant about having a fabric hanging.
As with my original wallhangings, I paint a scene on cotton with fabric painting dyes as a backdrop for the embroidery. After heat setting and washing to ensure that colours are fixed, I add grasses and flowers using free motion embroidery and/or ribbonwork. However in this case, I have stretched and wrapped the finished work around a canvas frame instead of finishing it with a fabric border. Because the edges of the canvas are covered with the painted fabric no framing is required - but they do look wonderful with a frame!
I'm happy with the result. Please let me know what you think.![]()
