With fabric painting dyes on 100% cotton and using the landscape around my home in St Andrews, New Brunswick for inspiration, I paint the landscape as a backdrop for the embroidery.
After heat setting and washing to ensure that colours are fixed, I add grasses and other foliage using free motion embroidery. Ribbons and embroidery floss are often used to complete the foreground. Spider webs (and spiders) are sometimes a major part of the design.
I add a mitered border to complement the scene. A wooden dowel passed through a hidden sleeve in the back makes hanging easy. These are very colour fast and only need to be vacuumed from time to time. Some have been hanging on the walls of our home for over 18 years and there has been absolutely no loss of colour.
Please note that no two will be alike. Because I do all of the work freehand – every one is definitely different. It is often possible to use a different colour border on the wallhangings; however, there is some restriction on this because the border colour influences the overall look of the scene. Blue and green borders will usually complement most of the wall hangings. The scenes featured on the cushions can also be painted on wallhangings.
- If the wallhanging you choose is available I can mail it right away.
- If not, I'll give you an estimate of how long it will take to complete your choice.
- If you have an idea for a custom order, I’ll be happy to talk with you about it.
